TAMPA — Both westbound lanes of W Bay to Bay Boulevard near S MacDill Avenue remained closed during rush hour Friday morning, as crews worked to repair a collapsed storm pipe.
An 18-inch section of line running beneath the roadway broke Thursday evening, forcing officials to block off the road, said Irvin Lee, the city's public works director.
Although those pipes had been repaired about 6 weeks ago, Lee said the patch didn't hold.
"We hoped it would give us time to put in a more permanent fix," Lee said Friday morning. "Unfortunately, it didn't give us that chance."
No specific time frame had been set for how long the repairs would take, but Lee said public works officials were "hoping" to reopen the roadway Friday.
"If nothing else we'll have something temporary in place," Lee said.
