Weekend events may create traffic headaches on Clearwater Beach

CLEARWATER — City officials are anticipating heavy traffic and parking shortages on Clearwater Beach this weekend because of a series of community events and damage to a major garage.

Damage from a sprinkler system flood at Surf Style gift shop has made the garage's 400 parking spaces unavailable, according to public communications director Joelle Castelli.

The flooding comes as athletes arrive to prepare for an Olympic sailing qualifying championship and the Clearwater Beach Uncorked food festival runs Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors can instead take advantage of the 700 parking spaces at Sand Key Park; the Clearwater Ferry; the Jolley Trolley; and Suncoast Beach Trolley, Castelli said.
