Tropical Storm Igor has formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, the ninth tropical storm of the season.
While the storm is undergoing some shear, most forecast models indicate it will gradually strengthen and become a hurricane, possibly by Friday.
Igor is expected to take a westerly course for the next few days, then shift to a more northwesterly direction as a ridge of high pressure in the central Atlantic begins to weaken.
The storm currently has sustained winds of about 40 mph and is moving west at 8 mph.
