TAMPA — Two children were taken to Tampa General Hospital on Thursday after they touched a fence that had become electrified by a downed power line.

Tampa Fire Rescue was called to a home near the intersection of East Osborne Avenue and North 37th Street about 6 p.m., spokesman Jason Penny said. The children suffered minor injuries, but went to Tampa General as a precaution.

Heavy storms late Thursday afternoon caused a large tree to fall near the home, taking a power line down with it. The power line caused the nearby fence to become energized, police said.

Tampa Electric workers were repairing the line by about 8 p.m. Thursday, said TECO spokeswoman Cherie Jacobs.
