Heavy fog that blanketed the Tampa Bay area Sunday morning was giving way to some afternoon sun.
The National Weather Service had issued a heavy fog advisory until 10 a.m. and warned drivers to slow down and use low beam headlights. Visibility on Sunday morning was less than a quarter mile in some areas, said Bay News 9 meteorologist John Linker said.
Fog is very common in the winter, Linker said, because of lighter winds and high levels of moisture in the air.
Sunday afternoon will be partly sunny with a high of 80 degrees, he said.
