A line of showers and storms moving through central Florida was expected to bring heavy rain, gusty winds and lightning to the Tampa Bay area Monday.

Widespread severe weather was not expected, but residents should make sure to stay inside if a storm passes overhead.

The rain was forecast to ease off during the late afternoon, with only isolated showers expected in the evening.

Additional clouds and rain were expected to shave a few degrees off afternoon temperatures, putting highs in the upper 80s. A high pressure system to the south and a trough to the north promised to keep sustained southwesterly winds across the region from 10–15 mph, with higher gusts possible.

Showers and storms were forecast to decrease to 40 percent coverage by Tuesday, and again to 20–30 percent on Wednesday. Early forecasts for the Fourth of July weekend were typical for this time of year — highs in the low 90s, plenty of humidity and about a 30 percent chance of scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
