Canadian cold front to bring chill to Tampa Bay

A cold front is moving into the Tampa Bay area that will bring the lowest temperatures so far this fall.

Temperatures in the mid 70s today will turn chillier this evening, dipping into the 50s early Tuesday.

"Tuesday morning, people will definitely feel it," said Bay News 9 meteorologist Brian McClure.

But the real surge of cold air will arrive later Tuesday, when overnight lows should drop into the 40s for much of the bay area, McClure said. Locally, Hernando County will be coldest, with temperatures expected to drop into the 30s.

Unlike the front that swept into the area with rain late last week, this one won't include any precipitation, though it will bring stronger winds.

The dip in temperatures is caused by a "classic Canadian cold front," McClure said.

And it's right on schedule. Mid to late October is generally when we feel the first blasts of cold, McClure said.

But don't get too used to it. It should start to warm up again Wednesday and temperatures will get back to normal for this time of year — highs in the low 80s and lows in the mid 60s — by week's end.

"It'll be nice and comfortable for Halloween," McClure said.
