Cool and dreary today, but sunny and warm for the weekend

Thursday dawned cool and dreary, with a little rain, but warmer, sunnier days are ahead, weather forecasters said.

The low Thursday morning was 59 at Tampa International Airport and the high will be near 74, though it will be cooler in the northern reaches of Tampa Bay.

"The cold front came through yesterday and we are feeling it today," said Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez.

Tampa Bay will remain cloudy Thursday, she said.

"As long as the clouds are in place ... we really don't think the temperature will heat up," she said.

Expect the clouds to disappear near day's end, said Anthony Reynes of the National Weather Service in Ruskin, and Friday's high should be in the low 80s.

The weekend should be in the lower 80s and mostly sunny, he said.

The weather service issued a high-surf advisory for Tampa Bay as the remnants of Ida merge with a storm forming off the Carolinas.

ST. PETERSBURG— Mayor Rick Kriseman has chosen a controversial restaurant concept to occupy the Manhattan Casino, saying he made a decision 11 days before the mayoral primary because he didn't want politics to get in the way of progress in struggling Midtown.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson speaks during a Friday press conference announcing that the Callaloo Group will open a Floribbean restraurant in the historic Manhattan Casino in St. Petersburg's Midtown neighborhood.
