Rainy, muggy weather likely for the weekend

Rain moves over Clearwater Harbor into Clearwater on Friday afternoon.

JIM DAMASKE | Times

Rain moves over Clearwater Harbor into Clearwater on Friday afternoon.

A line of thunderstorms heading toward Tampa Bay will bring showers and gusty winds this afternoon and evening.

The front already is bringing rain and some high winds to areas immediately north of the Tampa Bay area, including Citrus and Hernando counties.

Unlike many fronts, this one probably will stall over the region, meaning Thursday was the last sunny day we'll see for a while, said Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez.

High temperatures Saturday and Sunday are expected to be in the low 80s over most of the Tampa Bay area.

Showers are likely to pop up in many areas over the weekend.
