After weakening to a tropical depression, Igor has returned to tropical storm strength Friday in the eastern Atlantic Ocean.

Igor, the ninth named storm of the season, has been strongly sheared since it first formed, but is moving into more favorable conditions for development and could become a hurricane by Sunday.

Global models forecast Igor to be a large hurricane over the central tropical Atlantic by Wednesday.

Igor had sustained winds of nearly 40 mph Friday and was moving west at 16 mph. It's expected to continue in this direction for the next day or two, but is still far from land.
