Forecasters are watching an area of low pressure that was moving over the Leeward Islands early Friday.

"It still has a chance of development, especially over the weekend when it gets near the Bahamas," Bay News 9 Meteorologist Juli Marquez said.

The are of low pressure was expected to bring wind and heavy rain to portions of the Leeward Islands Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands today, and over Hispaniola and the southeastern Bahamas tonight and Saturday.

Forecasters were scheduled to fly into the area later today to further plot its movements. It was expected to be weakened slightly when it moved over Hispaniola this weekend, but forecasters still gave it a high, 80 percent chance of tropical storm development over the next five days.
