Sandbag operations to close at 4 p.m. in Hernando

Sandbag operations will be suspended in Hernando County at 4 p.m. today.

County officials said the supply of bags is quickly running out as residents prepare for Hurricane Irma, and they anticipate all will be gone by 4. Some sites may run out prior to that.

Just today, upward of 30,000 sandbags have been distributed. More than 80,000 have been given out since Wednesday morning.

Officials said they would resume operations once additional supplies are received, which is expected to be Friday, September 7. An announcement will be made at that time.

Sandbag locations include:

• Hernando County Department of Public Works, 1525 E Jefferson St., Brooksville.

• Hernando County Fire Rescue Station 1, 1479 Parker Ave., Spring Hill.

• Hernando County Fire Rescue Station 2, 3445 Bob Hartung Court, Spring Hill.

• Ridge Manor Community Center: 34240 Cortez Blvd., Ridge Manor.
