Tropical Storm Danny continues toward Carolinas

Tropical Storm Danny is continuing its flanking maneuver of Florida and is expected to brush the Carolinas this weekend (see track forecast map below).

According to the National Weather Service's 11 a.m. update, Danny is centered roughly 320 miles northeast of the Bahamas and about 550 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C. The storm, with sustained winds of almost 60 mph, is moving northwest about 10 mph. Tropical storm-force winds extend 205 miles from its center, but it should pose no major threat to Florida.

Danny is forecast to reach hurricane strength Saturday, then speed through the Carolinas toward New England.
