Tropical Storm Igor, which formed Wednesday in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, is expected to begin strengthening on Friday.
The ninth tropical storm of the season, Igor could become a hurricane by Sunday as it moves over warmer water and faces less wind shear.
Igor has been meandering to the south of the Cape Verde Islands, but is expect to begin moving slowly west-northwest Thursday afternoon.
Maximum sustained winds were about 40 mph at 11 a.m. Thursday.
