MIAMI — Forecasters said Tropical Storm Philippe is posing no threat to land after forming over the far eastern Atlantic.
The National Weather Service late Saturday said Philippe was about 595 miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. It had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and was moving west-northwest at 13 mph. It was expected to gradually turn northwest and slow down.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Ophelia struggled in the Atlantic, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. It was 495 miles east of the Leeward Islands, and moving west-northwest near 12 mph, away from the U.S. mainland.
