Rain chance increases throughout area today

Forecast: Hot and steamy today with a 75 percent chance of frizzy hair. Officially, 89 degrees with a 60 percent chance of showers, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds should be out of the west-southwest from 6 to 15 mph, with gusts to 21 mph.

Showers are expected to develop this morning, with up to half an inch of rain possible in some areas. Another half-inch is possible tonight, although rain chances dip to 30 percent. The low temperature should be a sultry 77 degrees.

Some storms could be locally strong, so try to avoid them.

According to the NWS, Tampa received 0.33 inches of rain Monday to almost maintain an inch-a-day average at 5.92. The St. Petersburg station at Albert Whitted Airport has measured just 1.68 inches.
