The severe storms that passed over Pinellas County on Monday night caused minor damage to some buildings, including a carport that was ripped apart on Highland Avenue in Largo, emergency officials said.
Bay News 9 meteorologist Josh Linker said winds reached 50 mph in some places. Firefighters and emergency personnel were called to the Highland Avenue home about 9:30 p.m.
There also were reports of several transformer pole fires. Progress Energy reported about 1,000 people without power.
The storm weather isn't over. Bay News 9 forecasters say there is a 70 percent chance of rain for today and Wednesday.
