Lightning illuminates the sky over First Avenue N in St. Petersburg Tuesday evening as a storm that created a tornado warning moved through the area.

A long stretch of dry weather came to an end Monday night as a line of thundershowers — some severe — moved through the Tampa Bay area.

Forecasters issued severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings for parts of the Bay area as the worst weather moved through. There were no reports of heavy damage.

The storms knocked out power for several thousand people in the Bay area, but did end a spell that included one of the driest Novembers in history, according to Bay News 9. More rain is expected today as a cold front moves through.

Motorists should use caution this morning, as forecasters said fog is likely.

After the front passes it will bring in cooler, drier air with high temperatures in the low to mid 70s.
