Warmer weather on the way for Tampa Bay

Temperatures early Monday dipped into the low 30s in parts of Hernando and Citrus counties but warmer weather is on the way.

The long weekend in the Tampa Bay region produced a low temperature of 28 degrees Sunday morning in Brooksville. The cold probably was not severe enough to cause crop damage.

Lows in Tampa and St. Petersburg over the weekend were in the 40s and 50s.

All that should change today.

"Things are going to start to warm up starting this afternoon," said Nicole Carlisle, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Ruskin.

Temperatures on Monday will reach into the mid 70s with overnight lows in the 50s, Carlisle said.

Rain chances this week are also minimal, with the highest chance at 10 percent Tuesday and Friday, said Bay News 9 meteorologist Josh Linker.

Although rain is not expected, some clouds will still roll into the region throughout the week, Linker said.

Patchy fog will also form in regions of Tampa Bay this week starting Monday night through early Wednesday, according to the weather service.
