Candidate replies: Russell, Swope

Editor's note: Candidates not recommended by the Tampa Bay Times are given an opportunity to respond.

John Russell

U.S. House, District 12

I present detailed solutions to resolve problems with our economy, restoring relevance and solvency to Social Security and Medicare, immigration and a host of others, including standing alone in my position to bring the troops home.

I am an expert in health policy understanding it from the ground up as I "deal" with insurance companies and the obstacles they pose in my effort to deliver health care to cancer patients. I alone have a plan to implement Medicare for all as an option in modifying the Affordable Care Act.

Scott Swope

Pinellas County Sheriff

Incumbent Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri eliminated the fugitive section that served outstanding arrest warrants, and the county now has 56,000 outstanding warrants. He eliminated the DUI enforcement unit, and he cut the human sex trafficking detective. Gualtieri says there is no money to fund these vital public safety programs, yet he found $5 million to give bonuses and wasted money focusing on Simply Hydroponics and Internet cafes.

As sheriff, I would reinstate these vital public safety programs and work diligently to get dangerous wanted criminals off our streets. Pinellas needs a sheriff with a clear sense of priority and focus, not a political appointee who is determined to forge ahead with blinders on. I will always uphold the constitutional rights of Pinellas County citizens.
