GOP Mia! A musical based on the songs of Abba.
Lyrics and music by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus.
Prologue: In a small Greek town, south of Pasco, (Hallelujah Land was booked) Republicans must figure out who will be their real leader. It's been a controversial tenure for the executive committee chairman and now he must face the music in a convoluted campaign season.
Cast:
Bill Bunting as the chairman who defines good Republicans by how much cash they contribute to the party.
Dan Meahl as the guy trying to oust the chairman from his neighborhood precinct committee post as a precursor to the coup.
Steve Graves as the vice chairman and would-be successor as party chairman if the coup succeeds.
John Renke as the longtime state committeeman who is being challenged by the chairman for his state party post.
Alison Morano as the chairman of the Democratic Executive Committee.
John Nicolette as a Republican candidate for County Commission conspiring to disenfranchise Democrats and independents.
Chorus: Assorted rank and file Republican faithful.
The house lights dim. The music begins and the players start the serenade.
Chorus: Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king
Bunting: Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man's world
Chorus: Where are those happy days?
They seem so hard to find
I tried to reach for you, but you have closed your mind
Whatever happened to our love?
I wish I understood
It used to be so nice, it used to be so good
Meahl: If you change your mind, I'm the first in line
Honey I'm still free
Take a chance on me
Morano: Super Trouper beams are gonna blind me
But I won't feel blue
Like I always do
'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you
Nicolette, seeking a mystery write-in candidate:
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day
Morano's refrain:
Tonight the Super Trouper lights are gonna find me
Shining like the sun
Smiling, having fun
Feeling like a number one
Renke to the faithful:
Don't go wasting your emotion
Lay all your love on me
Don't go sharing your devotion
Lay all your love on me
Bunting to the faithful:
Knowing me, knowing you (ah-haa)
There is nothing we can do
Knowing me, knowing you (ah-haa)
We just have to face it,
This time we're through
Graves: The winner takes it all
The loser standing small
Bunting: My, my, at Waterloo Napoleon did surrender
Oh yeah, and I have met my destiny in quite a similar way
The history book on the shelf
Is always repeating itself
An ensemble of Ron Paul supporters as the place goes dark:
I have a dream, a song to sing
To help me cope with anything
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future even if you fail
Epilogue: To be written by voters Aug. 26.
