Right by Miles
Two teenage boys are in a car chase with a reckless, sexually perverted Polk County sheriff’s deputy. The boys crash, killing Miles White, 16. But the sheriff’s office does not investigate its deputy’s involvement. Why?

Fall TV match-ups
The networks try to catch viewers' attention after the writers strike, while cable channels go for a knockout blow by debuting new series at the same time. Let's see who the winners are.
Memo to baseball commissioner Bud Selig: Butt out.
Tampa Bay in general and St. Petersburg in particular does not need your two cents on how much you dislike Tropicana Field and how badly the Tampa Bay Rays need a new stadium. Your sarcastic remarks to ESPN's Howard Bryant — "They can't make it in that ballpark. Have you been there?'' — are not appreciated. And when Bryant answered that he had been to the Trop many times, you wouldn't let it go. "Do I need to tell you any more than that?''
It would be one thing if you visited regularly or, say, showed up for the series sweep of the Chicago Cubs that drew more than 90,000 very loud fans. But don't make wild generalizations when you apparently haven't graced us with your presence in four years. Maybe you'll make it down for a playoff game this fall?
Pinellas County commissioners, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker and City Council members are perfectly capable of creating a viable financing plan for a downtown waterfront stadium, even in these tough economic times. And if everything somehow falls into place this summer and the stadium issue makes it to the November ballot, St. Petersburg voters will reach a reasonable judgment about what is in the best interest of our community without your bluster.
One more thing. You may have forgotten how St. Petersburg came to build the dome and eventually get the Rays. The City Council did not listen to baseball commissioner Peter Ueberroth's warning in 1986 that St. Petersburg was not among the top candidates for a franchise. So declarations by meddling baseball commissioners don't carry much weight around here.
The Trop is an exciting place to be this summer, and we don't need you to tell us that the Rays will need a new stadium at some point. Let this community wrestle with the issue, and keep your opinions to yourself — unless you want to talk about abolishing the designated hitter.

Jason: I'll be right over. First I'll show junior 10 one dollar bills. Then I'll throw 9 of them in the trash and explain to the little tike that this is what the Mayor wants to do with your future tax debt. Get it?

NO! Pinellas County commissioners, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker and City Council members are NOT perfectly capable of creating a viable financing plan. There is no "viable" plan to support this disaster for our waterfront.

I've been a Yankee fan since 1948. I now life in the Tampa Bay area and have tickets to the games the Yanks are playing at the Trop. My wife and I love the Trop. It's always comfortable and no problem with rain. Keep the Trop.

I come to see the Rays. I don't really care if they are at the Trop or somewhere else. However, if St Pete decides they don't want them, it would be sweet to have them here in Tampa.
GO RAYS!!!

Rays owners will destroy any goodwill team has generated by forcing a referendum down our throats because no one wants a move to Al Lang field. I still say Toy Town would benefit the county and the team.

tash, please do not insult my horse when speaking of bud selig in the same sentence. selig is a lame duck commissioner who has no business being commissioner; too much conflict of interest. selig is an insult to baseball.

C'mon people Selig is right. He doesn't need to come to the stadium to know it stinks. We can try to upgrade the Trop, but putting "lipstick on a pig" is not the answer(plus it would cost the same) Build the new ballpark, and let's move forward

We were at the Trop saturday with our grown children who grew up watching games at 3 Rivers Stadium. Tho the Trop is NOT PNC or Wrigley, it IS a fun place to be and the Rays are a fun team to watch. Build the park or not, we'll come.

All that money will be spent for something bright and shiny to look at and for no good reason. Spend some of that on the Trop and have a GREAT venue for baseball and other events. Let private money develop the waterfront if it's so important to you.

No matter what you think of baseball's commissioners, they make the final decision about location of teams so this commentary is foolish, as are most of those who think they know what's best for this area--you will all be crying when the RAYS leave!!

you left out that the s.f. giants were a done deal to become the tampa bay giants until limp selig nixed the deal. that guy is a horse's hind quarters, and the main reason steroids was allowed to proliferate in mlb.

And while you're at it Buddy Boy Selig, how about explaining to everyone out there exactly how sweet the financing deal promised to the city has worked out for YOU. Crook. Most of us normal people aren't rich dogs like you. We love the trop!!
