Letters To The Editor

Hernando Letters to the Editor for Aug. 10

Jacqueline Road being misused

I have issued complaints to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, traffic division and also a letter to the sheriff and have had very little positive response.

We have an issue on Jacqueline Road with speeding vehicles and trucks using the road as a short-cut to avoid the red lights and traffic on Cortez Boulevard. Jacqueline Road should only be used by trucks making local deliveries.

After talking to the Sheriff’s Office, they told me that because the trucks are delivering material at the end of Jacqueline Road, it is legal to use the road. If the trucks would use Cortez Boulevard, they could turn on Sunshine Grove and drive to the corner of Jacqueline Road, where they could enter the construction site just a few yards down from Sunshine Grove.

The state Department of Transportation told me that the restrictions on Jacqueline Road are the responsibilities of the Sheriff’s Office.

Speeding is a major problem on this road, and it is rare to see a sheriff’s deputy enforcing traffic.
