New group to address real women’s issues
Last Saturday our Congressman Gus Bilirakis sponsored a "Woman’s Summit" at East Lake High School that was supposed to deal with women’s issues. Some topics covered were gardening, weight loss and quilting.
Maybe the Congressman should have traveled 15 miles north and attended a meeting at the New Port Richey Library, where a small group of women were getting together to form a Pasco Woman’s Consortium. This new group hopes to bring together many of the diverse groups in Pasco County to deal with issues that effect women everyday.
The PWC hopes that bringing together local groups, they will be able to speak as one voice on issues that women face in their day to day lives, such as the older woman who wishes to go back and finish her education, the mother trying to figure how she will feed her family until next payday and the lonely senior who doesn’t know where to turn to find help. These are some of the topics the PWC will try to work on.
Maybe next time our congressman has a summit, he will work with this group and present workshops that are relevant to today’s woman’s everyday life.
