Letters To The Editor

Candidate replies to recommendation for Hernando County Commission

Candidate reply

Editor's note: Candidates not recommended by the Tampa Bay Times are given an opportunity to respond.

Joseph Swilley

Hernando County Commission

District 1

I am solely focused on Hernando County's budget, not the national debt.

The best way to fix our income problem is to expand the taxpaying base by putting jobs in Hernando County. To do that, we must make the process a easier, quicker and more friendly. More people working means more taxpayers.

We also have to look at the budget line by line and see where potential savings can be found. I have been true to my message in every speech and with everyone to whom I have spoken. My opponent offers contradictory positions depending on the crowd to whom he is speaking.
