Anna Liisa Covell

School Board candidate, District 5

Well, at least Tampa Bay Times got one thing right with its snarky comments; I did just complete my master's degree in digital journalism and design. Based on its drivel, I can run rings around the editorial staff, both, professionally and ethically.

The voters' choice was taken away by combining the sales tax referendum — a choice to just vote for the continuation of the half-cent school tax. Board members gambled with the future of our children's education dollars.

In a new spirit of cooperation with county government, School Board members need to ask for immediate reinstatement of school impact fees — school impact fees that can be used on long-term debt to free up ad valorem dollars for maintenance and technology.

If standing up against strong-arm tactics to raise taxes is a "tit-for-tat," I'm guilty.

If you agree we need responsible School Board members, vote Anna Liisa Covell.
