Gun-control laws are a needed step

Pursuing new gun controls is only the first step in curbing gun violence, but it needs to happen. Vice President Joe Biden is really on the right track with these new gun controls.

Background checks, limiting high-capacity magazines, and promoting gun safety are all really great precautions that need to be taken.

It is really a shame that current gun owners think their rights are getting taken away by these precautions being proposed. I am sure that there are many current gun owners that are following all of the current laws and have no reason to have to take these precautions. Obviously something is going wrong somewhere, and something needs to be done about it.

I agree that even if something is done, it is not guaranteed that situations like the Newtown, Conn. shooting will never happen again. But, if a few lives are saved in making these changes I believe that it needs to be done.

It is also a really great idea to have police officers on school campuses at the schools' discretion.

Hopefully these new gun controls will get passed. This really would be only the first step in a very long process in curbing gun violence, but at least it is a step in the right direction.
