Trash plan would not be convenient
Like many people in Hernando County, I received information about the proposed change to the county's trash, yard waste and recycling pickup program. They make it sound like this will be great and that they are concerned about recycling.
I lived through this same plan in Los Angeles County in California. Take my word — it is not favorable to anyone but those who own the company. You will receive three hard plastic trash cans with a lid that won't come off. You will put one trash can out for regular trash only, one trash can for grass, leaves, etc., and then one for recycled plastic, paper, etc.
If you can't fit your trash in the one trash can then you'd better go hunting for room in your neighbor's trash bin. You must have your trash cans exactly at the street pointing a certain way so the truck can pick them up or they leave them.
Don't think they came up with this idea for your convenience. This will not benefit the homeowner in any way. Seventy-nine percent of those polled by a newspaper a few years ago in L.A. said they disliked the new policy.
Though I am in favor of recycling, if this passes you won't have a choice. Vote "no'' on the proposal.
