Pasco letters: Why did NRA, Hammer endorse Simon over Bunting?

NRA backs gun champ's foe, July 31, article

Why is Hammer endorsing Simon?

The entire incident has me seriously questioning Marion Hammer, of the United Sportsmen of Florida, an arm of the NRA, and her judgment in using the NRA's Political Victory Fund.

Since when does the NRA Political Victory Fund involve itself in such relatively minor primary elections? Does Harry Reid's A+ NRA rating make him impervious to political attack by NRA standards?

Hammer has endorsed Steve Simon for Pasco Republican State Committeeman while Bill Bunting has been consistently active in pro-Second Amendment activities. Hammer should have stayed out of this election altogether.

Rotary invitation to school opening

Schools will be open in just a couple of weeks and on behalf of the Rotary Clubs of West Pasco I want to invite everyone to help get our newest community school ready to open.

Teachers at Richey Elementary will get keys to their new classrooms Monday, and in an effort to help teachers and principal Ken Meisner get the new school ready on time, the Rotary Clubs are organizing a 90-minute work session at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Rotary Club of Holiday has arranged for volunteers to be fed at noon at the conclusion of the event.

This is a wonderful way for everyone in the community to see the fabulous new school and let the teachers know we support them in the education of our next generation.

With the help from our Rotary Clubs and the community volunteers we believe we will have the school well on its way toward opening day and Richey Elementary will be shining bright as we start another school year.

If you would like to volunteer, please email me at carmstro@pasco.k12.fl.us or just show up at the school at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Enter the school grounds directly across from the New Port Richey Police station on Adams Street.
