Mayor awarded Home Rule Hero: The Florida League of Cities recently recognized City of New Port Richey Mayor Rob Marlowe with a 2019 Home Rule Hero Award for his efforts to advance the league’s legislative agenda and help protect the Home Rule powers of Florida’s cities during the 2019 legislative session. This is the second consecutive year Mayor Marlowe has received this award. Home Rule is the ability for a city to address local problems through and by local decision-makers with minimal state interference. Award recipients are local government officials who respond to the league’s request to reach out to members of the legislature and help give a local perspective to an issue.
