Tampa man thwarted in attempt to steal $10,000 in cigarettes from Pasco Sam's Club

A Tampa man was arrested Monday at a Wesley Chapel Sam’s Club, accused of attempting to steal 150 cartons of cigarettes valued at $10,137.

Robert Lee McGill III, 25, is being held on $5,000 bail, and this theft may be related to others in the Tampa Bay area, according to the arrest affidavit.

McGill was with two other male suspects when they entered the Sam's Club at 27727 State Road 56 and took four cases of cigarettes, passed the registers and attempted to escape through the fire exit, deputies said. He was apprehended by a witness.

The other men fled and are still at-large, deputies said.
