The Supreme Court is scheduled to issue rulings in two cases involving same-sex marriage as its term nears it end. One case is from California and is a challenge to the law passed there banning same-sex marriage. The other, from New York (where gay marriage is legal), addresses a tax law in which a woman was ordered to pay an estate tax on shared property after her longtime partner died. While some see same-sex marriages as morally wrong, others see them as a matter of getting equal rights that married couples enjoy automatically from the federal government. In this slideshow, we picked 10 that illustrate some of the more than 1,000 rights that come with that ring.
