Carlson Studio Architecture, regional leader in sustainable design, is celebrating its 15th Anniversary in business.
April 6, 2012 – Sarasota, FL – Carlson Studio Architecture, regional leader in sustainable design, is celebrating its 15th Anniversary in business. Since opening in 1997, Carlson Studio Architecture has achieved ten LEED Certified buildings, the only Sarasota based architecture firm to do so.
Carlson Studio Architecture is a full service design firm, specializing in sustainability for residential and commercial projects. The firm has experience in both new construction and renovations for office buildings, healthcare centers, educational facilities, religious facilities, and single family and multi-family homes.
In March, Carlson Studio Architecture was featured in a national publication, Local Leaders in Sustainability: Green Incentive Trends, a joint effort between The American Institute of Architects and the National Association of Counties. Sarasota County was chosen as a case study in this 62-page book that educates local governments about providing incentives for eco-friendly buildings in the design and development stages. The publication used Cancer Support Community and Twin Lakes Office Complex as examples of successful green building incentives in Sarasota County.
Michael Carlson founded Carlson Studio Architecture in 1997. His interest and study of sustainable design principles began in the early ‘80s as an architecture student at Ball State’s College of Architecture & Planning and The Center for Energy Research/Education/Service. Carlson is a foundering board member and immediate past president of USGBC Florida Gulf Coast Chapter and founder of the USGBC Myakka River Branch. He also serves on the board of the Sarasota Housing Authority and is a past board member of Sarasota Chamber of Commerce.
Carlson Studio Architecture is consistently recognized in the region for sustainable design. In late 2011, the firm won three awards at the USGBC Florida Gulfcoast LEEDership awards for its sustainable design work on the firm’s own office in Sarasota, the Learning Gate Community School, and the Cancer Support Community.
