St.Petersburg, Fl: A Walk Across America – One Step Closer - is the quest for college student Therese, (Terez) Simoneau, as she launches her summer expedition Sunday, July 6, at the Send-off Rally at 1:00 p.m. from Suncoast Cathedral, St. Petersburg, FL. Ending in Niagara Falls, Canada, three months later, her journey will take over 1300 miles as she navigates the varying terrains of eight different states. Simoneau struggled with physical and mental obstacles from an early age; growing up in a fatherless home she has overcome ADHD, hearing impairment, depression, P.T.S.D, and drug addiction. Her journey represents struggling people overcoming impairments and hopelessness. “I hope to inspire my generation to push beyond there limitations. When I started this journey there were a million reasons it was impossible and many people who told me I couldn’t do it. But I knew that if I was willing to put in the work, if I was willing to sacrifice the sleep and time that it didn't matter what they said as long as I crossed that finish line. ” said Simoneau. Simoneau is earning her Bachelor’s degree in general church ministries and hopes to eventually use her schooling for full-time prison ministry. She is walking to raise money for her second year at Impact Masters Commission, a two year discipleship program based out of Fort Wayne, IN. Supporters can help Simoneau accomplish her journey by sponsoring a mile for only $10. Simoneau has been researching and training for the walk for over a year, including a week long 110 mile walk to test her skills and equipment. She will be pushing a small, red cart with her tent, water and supplies. She has rally cities along the way to rest and visit with supporters. “I want to show the members of my generation that no matter where you came from, no matter how many odds are stacked against you, that every single person is capable of greatness and that it is worth fighting for. I want to show them that even when they feel like giving up they are ONE STEP CLOSER to a better future.” Suncoast Cathedral is located at 2300 62nd Ave. N., St. Petersburg, Fl 33702.
