CLEARWATER, FL, USA – December 22, 2012 – This week Deborah Hunter, 60 is moving into a new home. It’s “her” home and the first time she is able to walk in her front door without walking up the three flights of apartment stairs that were bothering her knees. Hunter, a Walmart employee of 15 years, is one of the first individuals to close on her new home at Country Club Townhomes just off Drew Street at Betty Lane which will include 31 three bedroom and two and half bathroom units focusing on first time home buyers.
Hunter came to the open house to learn more about the CCT, “It was new and very well built. It has a great layout and it is beautiful and affordable,” said Hunter. Although, it was with the help and support of a team that had to show Hunter just how affordable the new home could be.
More than a typical housing development, CCT is the product of years of planning and partnership on behalf of the City of Clearwater, Pinellas County, Neighborhood Lending Partners and private developer Southport Financial to provide families in Clearwater a truly affordable option to buy in this tough economic market.
The response has shown the deep need for affordable housing options in our area, with over two hundred interested applicants calling on the day news broke late last year. Although initial restrictions narrowly tailored the potential buyer – recent relaxations in restrictions have opened the ability to buy to a wider range of buyers looking for an affordable option close to work and downtown. Allowing buyers like Hunter the option to choose homeownership over continuing to rent. Hunter chose CCT, “mostly because it is affordable, but also it is very quiet here even though I am on a main road. [Also] I like the security system.”
Since then, interest has peaked, selling out the first building, and persuading the developers to finish additional buildings starting in March.
Renting is not the only option says this team of partners who are determined to not let the dream of home ownership slip away for people and families in Clearwater like Hunter who said if she hadn’t found her own quiet spot at CCT, “I would still be renting in an noisy building!”
The development which is located just off Drew Street 113 Betty Lane will include 31 Townhomes with three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, two car garages and common community areas. Units start at $149,000 with up to $45K in down payment assistance so it’s like buying a $220,000 townhome but only needing to qualify for a $105,000 mortgage.
