FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Florida's first Green Gas Station to open in Dunedin!
Florida's first gas station to earn a "Green Business Certification" is set to open on the main causeway to Honeymoon and Caladesi Islands. Bayshore Breeze Mobil station, family owned and operated by Spiro and Labrine Voutsinas, at 2600 Bayshore Drive in Dunedin is Florida's first! Following their desire to be environmentally friendly, the Vouysinas have remodeled their old auto repair shop into a new, Key West style facility that is an oasis of eco-friendly features and practices!
Green products and services are being offered inside and out! Convenient pumpside recycle bins are set so customers can clean out their cars or trucks while fueling. Eco-friendly landscaping and green spaces using reclaimed water are planted outside. Inside: paper cups have replaced plastic in the drink and coffee areas. The store offers reusable drink cups for refills and discounts on ice if you reuse styrofoam coolers. “Re-Newal” Florida spring water bottled in 100% compostable plant-based containers with plant-based labels is sold along with delicious organic "fair-trade" Coffee & Tea. Green cleaning products are being used.
The Mobil station has replaced the old petroleum tanks with double-walled steel tanks with electronic sensors that meet the new EPA and State standards, to assure safe storage and distribution of the petroleum fuels. The newly remodeled building is a cooperative effort between Richard Badders of Shorelines Design Group, LLC, and Melinda Hampsher, a twenty year veteran environmental consultant in Pinellas County and founder of The Green Business Consultants of Tampa Bay. It features the latest energy conservation technology with upgraded insulation in the roof and walls, thermo glass and tint in the doors and windows, low flow toilets and faucets, tankless gas water heater, a super efficient multi-zoned air conditioning system, ceiling fans, and light-colored no VOC paints. The interior display case and ceiling lighting was upgraded to cool, energy efficient LED lighting. The exterior fueling area canopy lights are replaced with state-of-the art, high efficiency induction lights.
Bayshore Breeze Mobil's "Sustainability Plan" includes future considerations to implement solar technologies, square foot gardening, rainwater harvesting, and a paperless office system. Bayshore Breeze also has the ability to offset their carbon footprint by sponsoring tracts of rainforest for preservation and planting sustainable trees in third world countries. Green Business Consultants Tampa Bay coordinated the effort, in association with a worldwide sustainability program.
A "Green Business Certification" is a business and industry standard resulting from an evaluation, performed by a sustainability officer or Green Certification Specialist, of the company's structural, operational, and functional practices. Points are assigned for environmentally friendly products, services and practices, along with a determination of the business's carbon footprint. By implementing ecology-friendly features such as energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, and environmentally responsible practices in the workplace to increase sustainability, a company may qualify for a Green Business Certification.
