KIDS WISH NETWORK JOINS AS CO-SPONSOR OF SANTA TRAIN
Organization Joins Longtime Sponsors CSX, Food City and
the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce
KINGSPORT, Tenn. – CSX, Food City and the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce today announced that Kids Wish Network has joined them as an official sponsor of the Appalachian holiday tradition the Santa Train.
Kids Wish Network is a nationally recognized charitable organization dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories and improving the quality of life for children. The organization will play a key role in gathering toys to distribute to children who live across the 110-mile Santa Train route. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 20.
“Our team at CSX has enjoyed collaborating with Kids Wish Network on events across the country, and we, and our partners at Food City and the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce, are thrilled that they have chosen to join us as sponsors of the Santa Train,” said Tori Kaplan, director of corporate citizenship and special events at CSX. “The work Kids Wish Network does for children across the country is remarkable, and we are honored to work with them.”
Kids Wish Network donated $130,000 worth of toys to the Santa Train last year and plans to contribute $200,000 to the Santa Train for the 2010 event.
“We were so happy to help out with this fantastic tradition last year,” said Barbara Askin, director of distribution at Kids Wish Network. “It was our organization’s first time to participate in a project in Appalachia, and we immediately wanted to become more involved. We’re looking forward to working with the other sponsors to make the 68th running of the Santa Train the best one yet.”
The Santa Train is an annual project that provides gifts, clothes and lasting memories to hundreds of children along the 110-mile train route between Shelby, Ky., and Kingsport.
