Kelly J. Hall Joins InformedDNA

New vice president for business development to focus on solutions for cancer centers and oncology programs seeking to meet the new Commission on Cancer genetics accreditation standard

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA – July 10, 2012 – Informed Medical Decisions, Inc. (InformedDNA) announced today that Kelly J. Hall, MBA, has joined the company to spearhead its business development efforts among cancer centers and oncology programs throughout the U.S.   A new Commission on Cancer (CoC) accreditation standard requires the more than 1,500 accredited programs to provide cancer risk assessment and genetic counseling on-site or by referral to genetics experts such as InformedDNA.

“As the former vice president of oncology services at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Kelly is uniquely qualified to educate cancer center and oncology program executives nationwide about meeting the new CoC accreditation standards,” stated InformedDNA’s chief executive officer, David Nixon.  “There is a national shortage of board-certified genetic counselors and InformedDNA’s proprietary phone/online service delivery allows oncology programs of all sizes to deploy a CoC-compliant genetics program quickly, efficiently and economically,” Nixon continued.

“Identifying patients at increased risk of developing cancer because of a family history of cancer or a known hereditary cancer syndrome can have dramatic effects on early detection and cancer outcomes,” explained Hall.   “There are many programs around the country who do not have the volumes nor the financial resources to offer these services in house.  This is why I am so excited to bring InformedDNA’s solutions to these programs; cancer risk assessment and genetic counseling are rapidly becoming standards of care and physicians are looking for genetics experts to support their practices and centers.”

What is Genetic Counseling?

Genetic counseling is the process of helping people understand and adapt to the medical, psychological and familial implications of genetic contributions to disease. This process integrates the following:

▪        Interpretation of family and medical histories to assess the chance of disease occurrence or recurrence.

▪        Education about inheritance, genetic testing, management, prevention, resources and research.

▪        Counseling to promote informed choices and adaptations to the risk or condition.
