The Pinellas Heat Elite Boys beat heavily favored Marion County Juniors U-14 Team from Ocala in the semi-finals by a score of 25-18, 25-21. MCJ's came into the tournament having won their last 5 tournaments in a row. It was a complete team effort said Head Coach Reggie Canezo as all the Pinellas Heat Boys raised the level of their game in taking down a very powerful MCJ Team. The Heat Boys went onto the finals and beat arch-rivals Toreros Volleyball Academy U-14 Team in a very hard fought back and forth battle which eventually saw the Pinellas Heat Elite Boys prevail by a score of 25-9, 13-25, 15-6. Other teams from South Florida(Ocean Bay Boys Volleyball Club), Orlando(Longwood Boys Volleyball Club), Jacksonville(JJVA), and Atlanta(A-5 Mizuno) also competed for this prestigious USAV Southern Regional Title.

Pinellas Heat Elite Boys Volleyball U-14 Team was led by Garrett Peterson, age 11, from Seminole Middle School, the reigning under 12 Open Boys National Beach Volleyball Champion with his stellar play and leadership, as well as, Grant Strong, age 9, from Curlew Creek Elementary, with his solid consistant serving and precision setting. Newly acquired Ryan Ierna, age 14, from Dunedin Middle School provided some much needed height and offense. The 6 Ft. tall middle was able to neutralize the powerful hitting of both Marion County Juniors and Toreros with his key blocking and timely kills throughout both matches.

Other Pinellas Heat Elite Boys Team members who did an outstanding job in helping their team to this prestigious and coveted Championship were Luke Salm, age 12, from Guardian Angel's Catholic School, with his great defensive digs, Chris Arradi, age 13, from Seminole Middle School, with his precision hitting and tenacity, Jakob Parks, age 13, from Coleman Middle School in Tampa, with his outstanding outside hitting, Reilly Collins, age 14, from Tarpon Springs Middle School, with his timely blocking and great setting, and Trevor Kennan, age 11, from Osceola Middle School, who played an inspirational and integral part in the success of his team by coming back out and helping support his teammates just weeks after coming off knee surgery, together with Head Coach Reggie Canezo who did a great job in leading his team to the Championship along with his Assistant Coach, Bowen Ierna.

A Special thanks goes out to both Barb and Terry Small, Directors and founders of the Pinellas Heat Elite Volleyball Club for giving the boys in Pinellas County the opportunity to play competitive Club Volleyball, without their generosity none of this would have been possible.
