Shaw Elementary, a Title 1 Renaissance School in Hillsborough County, will be hosting a school beautification project in honor of Earth Day. Last year, over 150 families came out to support our campus beautification event.  The results were tremendous, changing attitudes for those involved and rejuvenating our entire school community in a way that improved behaviors and promoted academic achievement.  The students took ownership of keeping the campus clean, and you could see the pride and sense of accomplishment in their eyes when the work was completed.  Each student played a part in the clean-up and re-landscaping effort.  The faculty and staff insisted we make this a Shaw tradition. We are hoping to tackle the same project this year by spreading it to the front of the school.

In addition, volunteers from Florida Hospital will be on-site conducting a free health fair. Health care professionals will be offering free health screenings as well as providing important information about nutrition, diabetes, and dietary needs. Health and fitness experts will also be on hand to model the proper way to exercise while maintaining safety of the body.

All Earth Day volunteers will enjoy a free lunch provided by Subway as well as ice pops provided by the Shaw PTA. PTA will also be selling popcorn and snow cones for $1. After lunch, there will be a drawing for free books for both adults and children. For a day of fun, food, and community, Shaw’s Earth Day celebration is the place to be.
