It is estimated that each year, more than 32,000 people die by suicide in the U.S., and every one of them leaves behind loved ones and friends. The stigma attached to this cause of death leaves loved ones feeling that this is somehow shameful or that they are somehow to blame. Research shows that more than 90 % of people who die by suicide have an underlying, although not always diagnosed psychiatric illness at the time of their death. For some survivors, a support group is the first time they will share their grief, reach out for support and support others.
The Suncoast Kids Place, a community service of Van Dyke Church is offering a much needed support group for adults that have lost a loved one to suicide, regardless of when the loss occurred.
