Children between the ages of 6 and 16 will have the chance to play the most beloved characters of all time. They will have the opportunity to be Cinderella, Aladdin, the Genie, or even Mowgli. They will practice the all so famous lines from Disney’s classics and deliver them on a professional stage with all the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
While learning to sing, dance, and act, the children will also learn about the dynamics of classical stories – about theme, characters, settings, and more. Through participation in the program, children will become more discerning readers because of the in-depth discussions about the characters, plot, and settings of the stories. They will become aware of how stories and characters relate to their own lives and through those discussions they will become aware of the ethics of life and how one person’s behavior affects people around them.
During rehearsals children will learn to sing and read simple music. Music lessons will include proper breathing techniques for singing, sight reading music, the dynamics of rhythm, and aural ear training, all done in a fun-filled magical atmosphere.
All children will have the opportunity to audition for leading roles as well as learn to sing and dance as part of an ensemble. Prior to auditions, children will be instructed on auditioning techniques, will learn about casting, and will be taught some simple dance steps.
Also included are lessons on theater ethics and set building. All children will have the chance to take part in designing the sets they will perform on and the props they will use. In doing so, children will learn the importance of team work.
Like all “stars”, the children will have the opportunity to participate in a photo shoot. Each child will receive a 8x10 official cast photo of the entire cast and have the opportunity to purchase individual pictures. Every child will also receive an official Disney Kids/Jr. cast member T-shirt with the logo from the show, a student script and workbook, a family matters companion book, and an advertising poster of the production. Children will also have the chance to participate in the Jr. Theater Festival held in Atlanta, GA by i-Theatrics and Music Theater International and sponsored by DisneyMusicals.com.
Following the production, the children will have the opportunity to sign autographs. After the final curtain call, the cast will make their way through the audience to the lobby where they will be seated with pens and all audience members will be encouraged to ask for the children’s autographs.
The entire program is designed to build confidence in each child while providing them with a safe and wholesome educational experience – coupled with the Magic of Disney's special kid's productions presented through special arrangements with Music Theater International (MTI).
Registration for the 2010/2011 Season is going on now. Come to an open house this Saturday from 10:00am to noon at the East Lake United Methodist Church located at 2801 East Lake Rd Palm Harbor, FL. Magicals meet for two hours per week on Saturday from 10:00am to noon. This year's production of Disney's Aladdin will be perform at Francis Wilson Playhouse in May 2011.
