March 14, 2011 — Belle Glade

Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Jeffrey Johnson accidentally shot Trooper Mellow Scheetz when he was demonstrating how to clean a handgun.

To disassemble the Glock handgun, Johnson pulled the trigger, not realizing that a round was chambered. Besides Scheetz, who was hit in the left buttock, the round also hit handgun magazines in Trooper Derrick Rahming's pants pocket. Scheetz is a weapons instructor at the FHP Training Academy and was on a routine inspection of the correctional training facility in Belle Glade. Read more
