Sep. 1, 2009 — North Miami Beach

Just after midnight, a North Miami Beach police officer approached John Benjamin Witherell, who was riding a bicycle.

Police said that Witherell pulled a gun out of his waistband and pointed it toward the officer, who fired several rounds, wounding Witherell.
