Dec. 7, 2014 — Titusville

It started when a neighbor called off-duty Brevard Deputy Jessie Holton at 12:30 a.m.

A man was burglarizing cars, the neighbor said. Holton spotted Wilford Elijah McCloud, 32, entering a vehicle a few doors down from where Holton lived. He identified himself and yelled for McCloud to show his hands.

Instead, McCloud fled. He eventually turned toward Holton in the backyard of a home and took a boxing stance. Holton then saw what he thought was a knife in his hand, according to records. He fired five shots, wounding McCloud. The silver object turned out to be a pen-style flashlight. Read more
