April 23, 2011 — Orlando

A police officer working as security at the Roxy nightclub called for assistance after a man was shot at the club around 2:30 a.m.

The suspect, Craig Leblanc, drove away in a white Ford F-150. Police attempted to pull over the truck and then deployed stop sticks.

Leblanc, 24, lost control while trying to make a left turn. He jumped from the truck with a pistol in his right hand and ran into the woods. Read more

At some point during the foot pursuit, Officer Anthony Wongshue fired at Leblanc, wounding him in the hand and shin. Leblanc's unnamed passenger was detained.

Leblanc was convicted of attempted murder, in addition to assault on a law enforcement officer and other charges. He was sentenced to life in prison.

This was the 40th police shooting in Florida in 2011.
