July 22, 2012 — Tampa

Deputies responded to a 911 call about a man shooting a gun and threatening to commit suicide.

They arrived at 6:13 p.m. at the Paradise Village Mobile Home Park to find Craig Douglas Vilsack, 54, sitting on his porch, holding a handgun and drinking.

While Deputy Teddy Lynn talked with Vilsack, he began pacing and waving the gun. He came within 10 feet of the deputy and pointed the weapon. Read more

Lynn and Deputies Katherine Gabel, Jeremy Goff and William Irvin opened fire, striking him four times.

Vilsack died at the hospital.

This was the 82nd police shooting in Florida in 2012.

The same day, two officers shot one person in Tampa .
