Feb. 5, 2009 — Jacksonville

Two undercover narcotics officers posing as drug buyers were in a car waiting for a suspect to return.

A different man, Theo James Brenner, 22, approached the car with a pill bottle in hand.

Brenner pulled out a gun, handed one officer the pill bottle and said, "I'm supposed to give you this," and then pointed a gun in the face of the officer in the driver's seat, saying, "Give me your money, crackers." Both officers fired at Brenner, who also fired a shot that barely missed both the officers' heads, according to reports. Read more

Brenner was killed, but no one else was hurt.

Investigators said they could not determine who fired first. One of the officer's wallets was found in Brenner's pocket.

This was the 17th police shooting in Florida in 2009.
