Dec. 24, 2014 — Jacksonville

At 2:30 a.m., the manager of a liquor store returned to reset what he assumed was a false burglary alarm.

He saw Michael Kevin Hollis, armed and wearing a mask, and ran out the front door as police arrived.

Hollis, 27, came out of the store carrying an assault rifle, with another rifle strapped to his chest. The rifles belonged to the store owner. Read more

He ran toward a carport and refused commands to put down the weapons. When he turned toward Officer Steve Coleman, the officer fired eight rounds, hitting Hollis once in the leg.

Two other rounds struck the rifle.

Hollis had an outstanding warrant for aggravated battery on a pregnant woman. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

This was the 126th police shooting in Florida in 2014.

The same day, one officer shot one person in Delray Beach .

Two days later, one officer shot one person in Cocoa .
