Around 10:15 p.m., Cpl. Chris Hall responded to a call about a man threatening Fire Rescue paramedics.

Officials said that Hall arrived to find Jerome James, 37, in his front yard, wielding a metal thatching rake.

The paramedics said that they had been called by James' father because James was having seizures. Other witnesses said he was drunk. Read more

Hall talked to James, who refused to drop the rake. As James moved closer, Hall tried to deploy his Taser. That angered James, who ran at him with the rake raised over his head.

Court records indicate that James was being evaluated for competency to stand trial for an unrelated incident.
